Killzone: Shadow Fall multiplayer ditches EXP, introduces challenge-based system

Killzone: Shadow Fall’s multiplayer has been given the spotlight in a new blog post by Guerrilla Games.

In a move that will probably surprise fans, the PlayStation 4 launch shooter eschews the traditional EXP system from previous entries, instead replacing it with a challenge-based affair.

Guerrilla explained that completing various tasks will add a point to your rank, which then unlocks the ability to attach weapon perks and ability enhancements.

Shadow Fall features over 1500 challenges from day one. These range from simple tasks such as ‘Destroy 1 Turret’ to more challenging efforts, ‘Kill 1 enemy player with Laser Tripmine while they are carrying a Beacon.’

Meanwhile, Combat Honours are new bonuses that can be activated by accumulating enough points during a multiplayer bout. Players can only use them for the duration of a single session though, so if you quit they’ll be lost. However, you can unlock as many of them during a match as you want, providing you put the points in.
