In an interview with Fox Business, Sony Computer Entertainment President and CEO Jack Tretton revealed that PlayStation 4 production has been going swimmingly, which means more consoles in customer hands this holiday season.
"We’re so excited for November 15th," said Tretton. "It’s going to be the biggest launch in history." When pushed for specific pre-order numbers, Tretton declined to comment with a figure, but elaborated, "It’s everything we can manufacture. We want to make sure that consumers have an opportunity to buy one on November 15 and through the holidays, so we’re holding back some inventory to make sure that people [can buy one] who come in on launch day, but we can pre-sell every unit we manufacture. And the good news–production yields have been phenomenal, so this will be, by a magnitude of a lot, the biggest launch we’ve ever done. . . There’s so much pent-up demand for it, that we can sell every one we can create."
The most recent figures put PlayStation 4 pre-orders at upwards of 1 million globally.
