PS4 external video capture may be activated with software update

As it stands, PlayStation 4 owners will not be able to shoot gameplay videos via external capture card, claims the Examiner.

An unnamed source confirmed to the website that High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) is enabled on PS4 which prevents the capture of software without a license. The fact that Microsoft has allowed external capture functionality on Xbox One is a blow for Sony, but the Examiner reckons that the PS4 maker is now ‘scrambling to ensure this works via an update’.

The PS4 will allow users to upload and stream content via Twitch T.V. from day one and it’s rumoured that Sony is looking into ways for users to upload clips directly to YouTube.
