The president of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has told Diamond Online (via DualShockers) that it’s all hands on deck in regards to hitting those profit margins with the PlayStation 4, after a period of financial turbulence for the company.
“Sony Computer Entertainment isn’t allowed to fail anymore with PS4, because the game business for Sony is a ‘Core’ (business) that embodies a fusion of both hardware and software,” said Andrew House.
The executive’s comments come in light of Sony refusing a request from shareholder Third Point LLC to flog 15-20 per cent of the hardware giant’s entertainment business in a bid to boost its electronics business.
Sony’s Board of Directors was unanimous in the decision to hold on to 100 per cent of its entertainment division, which it believes will be instrumental in the company’s future success.
Unsurprising it is, then, that House is bullish about failure with PS4 simply not being an option.
PS4 is scheduled to ship in the U.S. on November 15 and in Europe on November 29. The console arrives in Japan in February 2014.
