PlayStation App will arrive on iOS, Android just in time for PS4 launch
A Sony Computer Entertainment America press release has detailed when the PlayStation App will launch on a smartphone or tablet near you.
The PlayStation App, teased since the PS4 reveal back in February 2013, will launch for "iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, and Android-based smartphones and tablets" on November 12, just in time for the North American PS4 launch on November 15. There's a whole mess of features and functionality in the PlayStation App. You can:
Directly access PSN features like your profile screen, messages, friends list, friend activity, and Trophies
Browse the official PlayStation website
Use your device for a second-screen experience (e.g. companion device for The Playroom and other games)
Spectate gameplay of other PS4 users, post comments on screenshoots and footage (both live and recorded)
Purchase content on the PlayStation Store (and download directly to PS4, PS3, and PS Vita systems)
Use your device as a remote to control PS4 (including, for example, as a keyboard)
Looks like day-one PS4 buyers will have time to learn the ins-and-outs of the PlayStation App before the system arrives, though must functionality won't actually do anything until the system itself comes along. Still, exciting times! For North American gamers, PS4 is only three weeks away. Whew. Even typing that was surreal.
It's worth noting that PS Vita will get the PlayStation App in an upcoming firmware update, though exactly when it will drop is unclear.----
