The end of an era: Uncharted 3 gets last major update, free DLC

With Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception’s patch 1.18, we’ve reached the end of an era: there will be no major updates for Uncharted 3’s multiplayer component.

The news comes via the EU PlayStation Blog, where Naughty Dog Community Strategist Eric Monacelli describes the update as the culmination of the multiplayer community’s most requested features and balance changes. The patch will also introduce Dry Docks, a long-lost multiplayer map that began development as the same area in the campaign. When the layout changed to what we see as the single-player docks today, Dry Docks was largely shelved. Now, after some tinkering and polish, it’s been revived to celebrate the game’s two-year anniversary.

Not only that, but all of Uncharted 3’s multiplayer map packs–Flashback Map Pack 1, Flashback Map Pack 2, and Drake’s Deception Map Pack–are now free to download. So if you haven’t touched Uncharted 3’s multiplayer in a couple years (like me), there’s plenty of new content to look forward to.

Here are the rest of the patch notes, including a whole lot of changes to tie a neat bow of balance on Uncharted 3’s multiplayer. As Monacelli notes, "This will be the final major patch to Uncharted 3 unless there’s a dire need for a future one. Our support for the game will continue via Lab updates and community events."

Does the two-year anniversary of Uncharted 3 fill you with memories of the series? Going to dive back in to multiplayer to enjoy the free DLC?
