President of Sony Worldwide Studios and social media butterfly Shuhei Yoshida responded to a comment on Twitter saying PlayStation Network maintenance is “very last gen,” to which he agreed.
When asked by @McNugget365 about whether there would be changes to PSN maintenance scheduling, Yoshida had this to say:
@McNugget365 already less frequent and shorter, keeping online gaming up, etc. always improving

This comes as a result of scheduled downtime being extended for two hours later.
It seems that the maintenance has taken some developers by surprise as there were no annoucements prior to the downtime by many industry Twitter accounts, including Electronic Arts who has been tweeting Battlefield 4 players apologizing for the downtime.
@mlkp1r4nh4 Hello, sorry about the inconvenience but there’s seems to be Maintenance being performed http://t.co/Xrc8WWYwUW ^EG
