DualShock 4 lightbar dimming in PS4 update 1.70

Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida says you'll be able to dim to the DualShock 4's bright, battery-sucking lightbar with PS4 firmware update 1.70.

How, to what extent, and whether you'll be able to turn off the light completely isn't clear, but this option should help PS4 owners conserve controller battery life. DualShock 4's obnoxiously short charge life is arguably its biggest (and, perhaps, only) downside.

Lightbar dimming joins a plethora of confirmed and rumored features that are turning update 1.70 into something of an anticipated event. We already know about video editing with SHAREfactory, toggling HDCP to capture game video directly via HDMI, and pre-loading of digitally purchased games before release. PS4 owners will also gain the ability to upload profile pictures from the PlayStation App, but on the rumor side, we expect to see MP3 playback support (via DualShockers), friends list stability fixes, and sorting of games and apps on the front menu.

Seemingly, PS4 update 1.70 stops short of beating your games for you, but at least you won't be waiting long: the update is scheduled to drop on Wednesday, April 30.

Nevertheless, what part of this firmware update is most exciting for you? Anything major you want that isn't included?
