EVE Valkyrie to use Unreal Engine 4, confirms CCP

Yesterday marked the start of EVE Fanfest 2014 where EVE Online developer CCP hosts keynotes and presentations on its New Eden Universe IP. Yesterday’s EVE Valkyrie keynote talked about the new game and revealed a slew of announcements on the VR dogfighting title, including that the project is being built on the Unreal Engine 4.

Unreal 4 is Epic’s new game development engine set to be the foundation for many of this generation’s future blockbusters, just like Unreal 3 was for many of last gen’s including CCP’s own DUST 514. Early demos have boasted high fidelity graphics and impressive lighting and particle effects, which bodes well for the fledgling spaceship fighter.

EVE Valkyrie joins EVE Online and DUST 514 as part of the Icelandic developer’s sci-fi universe and is coming to PC via Oculus Rift and PlayStation 4 via Project Morpheus.

While integration into the single shard server that is home to DUST and EVE is something the devs are probably thinking about, there have been no announcements and for now is a standalone experience. EVE Valkyrie is set to release sometime this year.
