PS Vita Slim launches today in North America

Starting today, you can purchase a lighter, slimmer model of PlayStation Vita in North America.

The release puts PS Vita Slim, 20 percent slimmer and 15 percent lighter than the original, OLED-equipped handheld, in a bundle with Borderlands 2, which gets its standalone portable release next week. There’s also 1 GB of internal memory, longer battery life, a liquid-crystal display, and a more rounded figure. That last bit, combined with the system’s reduced weight and the rubber finger holds on the rear side being enlarged, makes PS Vita arguably more comfortable to hold.

Of course, 1 GB of internal memory is nothing to write home about, and PS Vita memory cards are still notoriously expensive. Don’t worry–the bundle comes with an 8 GB card. Still, there’s plenty of reason to bolster your storage further; PS Vita has accumulated a wealth of great games in its first couple years, including grand RPGs like Persona 4 Golden, indie titles like Hotline Miami, and exclusives like Killzone Mercenary and Gravity Rush. More exclusives, like Freedom Wars, are on the way.

The Borderlands 2 PS Vita Slim bundle, with six DLC packs for the blockbuster role-playing shooter, will run you $199.
