PS4 system software update v1.72 incoming, PS3 update v4.60 now available to download

A mandatory system software update for PS3 (v4.60) is now available to download, confirms Sony via the official PlayStation Twitter account, with PS4 update (v1.72) set to follow shortly.

The updates will ‘improve system software stability during use of some features’. Though there may be some hidden features, these are the details we’ve received from the official changelog regarding the enhancements:

• Closed captions are now supported for playback of Blu-ray Disc titles and DVDs. To display closed captions, select [Settings] > [Video Settings] > [Closed Captions].

• The style used for closed captions, such as the font, size and color, can now be adjusted. Select [Settings] > [Video Settings] > [Closed Captions Settings].

The PS3 v4.60 update is now live, so we’d expect the PS4 update to follow shortly.
