Sega revealed on their Diva Station blog that the Hatsune Miku games have sold over 2.5 million copies in Japan alone.
The total sales number includes both digital and physical copies in the rhythm games. Sega is celebrating the five year anniversary since releasing the first title in the franchise, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA, on the PlayStation Portable. Hatsune Miku character designer and illustrator KEI drew the below image to celebrate the occasion.
Miku is the personified mascot of Crypton Future Media’s flagship voice synthesizer program based on Yamaha’s Vocaloid technology. The majority of the games in the Hatsune Miku franchise fall into the main series named Project DIVA, which has stayed exclusively on Sony PlayStation platforms. Spin-offs have appeared on the Nintendo 3DS and iOS.
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva F for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita is available in North America and Europe and were the first Miku games localized in the West. The sequel, Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA F 2nd, launched this past March in Japan for PS3 and PS Vita and will release later this year in North America and Europe on both platforms.
