Star Citizen creator gets a PS4 dev kit but insists ‘It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform’

Following the arrival of a PS4 dev kit at the home of Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium, and the subsequent spotting of the console on the CTO’s desk, rumours have been flying around that the open-world space flight combat game could be earmarked for Sony’s machine.

However, Cloud Imperium game designer Chris Roberts has been quick to debunk such rumours, taking to the robertsspaceindustries.com forums to berate consoles claiming that they are “mid-level gaming PCs," whereas the PC "is always moving forward, with new powerful components (usually at cheaper prices) becoming available to gamers available every year."

“Star Citizen IS a PC game. It will NEVER be dumbed down for a lesser platform,” said Roberts. “We will NOT limit the input options or supported peripherals to the lowest common denominator. We will NOT pass on features and technology just because they will only run on some hardware configurations.”

However, he does end his rant by stating that a PS4 and Xbox One version isn’t totally out of the question.

“IF the platform holders (Sony & Microsoft) allow us to update the code and data without restrictions and odious time consuming QC procedures, IF they allow our community to openly interact with each other across platforms then I would CONSIDER supporting them.”

Well, that’s probably very unlikely, so if you do fancy playing Star Citizen you’ll simply have to upgrade your PC by the sound of it. Or simply forget it exists and continue playing great games on PS3 and PS4.
