5 PlayStation games that need their servers turned back on

It’s always a sad day for gamers when their favourite titles get their online multiplayer plug pulled. Not only is it goodbye to entire communities, but it’s goodbye to a regular doses of fun, leaving only memories, gameplay clips on YouTube and perhaps a single-player mode to enjoy. It’s sad to hear then that MAG, SOCOM: U.S. Navy Seals Confrontation and SOCOM 4: U.S. Navy Seals are all having the plug pulled on them today, and the former two games don’t even have offline modes. That got us thinking about the games that we think should still be online.

Everquest Online Adventures (PlayStation 2)
This was one of the first PlayStation MMOs, and in fact the earliest to reach Europe’s shores. It might seem a little old and dusty now, but the PC version once dominated it’s genre, and indeed, if it still had a place on PlayStation – perhaps with a re-release on PSN – it would surely attract gamers keen to understand what’s behind the PlayStation 4 version of upcoming Everquest Next.

Jak X: Combat Racing (PlayStation 2)
Jak and Daxter’s only online appearance so far has been in this kart racing spin-off. It was solid fun too with fast-paced races combining very nicely with the high quality humour and visuals of the much-loved I.P. Whilst it is asking much for the servers of a PlayStation 2 game to still be live, there might have been a chance had it been included in the recent Jak and Daxter HD collection.

Motorstorm (PlayStation 3)
It was an astounding game upon release as a PS3 launch title, and is still tremendous fun now. If Motorstorm: Apocalypse can still be played online, then why shouldn’t this classic title be available to be booted up? The game had some classic tracks.

White Knight Chronicles I & II (PlayStation 3)
It is a terrible, terrible shame that these two games are now offline only. The only option for fans of PlayStation 3 JRPGs who want to head online is Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. If White Knight Chronicles was still live and kicking, it would be a viable alternative.

SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3 (PSP)
There’s no question that the SOCOM games are much loved. Once upon a time gamers could play the tactical shooter against each other on portable devices, but no longer. Yes, Slant Six Games seems to have gone silent on social media so could be dead (which is claimed on
Wikipedia); indeed, it suffered major "temporary layoffs" last year. Even so, surely Sony could organise to get the servers back? You could do that, right Sony (in a dream world of SOCOM fans)?
