Quantic Dream boss talks Heavy Rain play time

David Cage, Founder of Quantic Dream, has divulged a few new snippets of info regarding Heavy Rain, revealing that the hotly anticipated thriller should take roughly 8-12 hours to finish.

“We’re still in the middle of production, so I can’t really tell you the exact time of the game, but we’re targeting a game between eight and 12 hours in gameplay for one walk through,” said Cage, during an interview with VG247.com

Although noting this would prove enjoyable enough for the majority of gamers, Cage was quick to point out that hardcore players will likely feel compelled to play through the game multiple times over in order to unlock everything the story has to offer.

“It’s impossible in one walk through to see everything there is to see,” he explained.

“And that’s going to be OK. For most gamers, they’re going to play it once, and really enjoy it and have a great journey, but some hardcore gamers will want to come back and see everything, and all possible options.”

Heavy Rain is scheduled for release exclusively on PlayStation 3 in 2009.

8-12 hours,is pretty good imo, considering this game is ALL about the story.

Many amazing games I have beaten in 8-12 hours. All the old resident evils and even metal gear 3 can be beaten faster than that skipping scenes but never disappointed me because I replayed the game over and over. This game seems to have a lot of replaybility.

    8-12 hours sounds reasonable

If this game is just quick time events, then that means no replayability for me, so its 8-12 hours then I'll be taking it back from where I rented it.

If that's your additude dont even bother picking it up, because this game is obviously not aimed at you.

8-12 hours aint that good considering story games like this r meant to be long, its ps3 exclusive, blu ray ,hard drive and all that.makes me wonder if this game will be released for the 360 at a later date.could be covering all bases incase this is a flop on ps3

    @ Mark

Are you kidding me? Yes please find an Xbox site to troll the game is published by SCEE which means NO XBOX VERSION!!! And a flop, yea it's probably too advanced for you, stick with Halo!

    @markwesker

Time does not indicate the amount of content used in game. Play indigo prophecy to understand what I mean. Now there might be a large chance of having multiple play throughs that bring you to entirely different area's. I think quantic is just awesome enough to think that way.

And really... whats up with all the name calling.

Some of the best games I've played have been around 10 hours in length. Like these gems: Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, God of War, Shadow of the Colossus...

To be honest, i'm glad that ONE playthrough will last roughly 8-12 hours. The amount of choices the player will be able to make that alter the storyline is overwhelming enough, i couldn't imagine a game which this in depth being longer than that. The amount of resources and effort it will take to complete the game is enough as it is if you can carry on the storyline after killing the main character, lol. Can't wait for this :D

psn id: gingo.... 12 hours is reasonable for a game in this current gen, 8 hours might be verging on too short but i reckon that will only be players who are on their third or fourth playthrough

10 to 12 hours is a standard kind of time for today.  Even though a lot of great games are that length it doesn't mean that it is a good length (at least not for the price).  I loved heavenly sword and uncharted, and beat them multiple times, but I felt that I didn't get my money's worth because of the length.  It seems the only thing that adds repeatability is an online mutliplayer element because all games are short now (not that you can do that with this type of game).

Don't matter how long the game is im not getting it.

    • 9:50pm BST - September 12th, 2008

Sweet another short PS3 exclusive rental for me, well at least it is 3 times longer than what MGS4 can be beat in.

And too the people saying 12 hours is ok for a single player, that is foolish. There is alot of current gen games that has alot more play time than 12 hours.

Well knowing the fact that its only going to b a 8-12 hour game kind of puts ppl in a o no thats to short of a game situation......sometimes ppl cant understand on how much the game has to offer in what things you can do in what other games can not....i for myself rather spend time walking around searching for new things rather than rushing the game

@ mark That has to be the stupidest post I've ever read. I'm suprised that your uneducated, trash-talking post didn't get you banned. I bet you don't even own a PS3 and what's even funnier is the fact that your stupid post is the only one that was spoken badly of - and from the way you type I wouldn't doubt that you are not a day over 13 years of age, and that's actually more insulting to a 13 year old than you. Would explain why you have no interest in a mature rated game - I guess mommy and daddy won't buy it for you huh! Don't cry - take a deep, breath it'll be ok, kid!!
