Staff layoffs hit Zipper Interactive

Zipper Interactive, the Sony-owned studio behind both MAG and the SOCOM franchise, has put a number of its employees on the chopping block, in what Sony has described as a normal business practice.

Speaking with Kotaku, a Sony spokesperson confirmed the layoffs at Zipper, and went on to label the decision as a "normal business practice and a result of cutting back on production resources after the launch of two major franchises."

Sony has not yet disclosed the exact number of employees that were laid off, although Internet rumors have suggested that a total of 33 employees were let go.
