Payday: The Heist delayed

It has just been revealed that Overkill Software’s upcoming multiplayer downloadable game, Payday: The Heist, has been delayed.

Sony Online Entertainment (SOE) said that the reason behind the delay was “to ensure players and fans of our promise and vision to produce high-calibre games that deliver the best quality game experience."

The squad-based first person shooter was initially scheduled to be available on the U.S. PlayStation Store today. However, SOE said nothing more in regards to the actual release date, except that it will be “later this month”. Players who pre-ordered Payday: The Heist via the PlayStation Store as part of the PSN PLAY program will receive it at launch, whenever that may be.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Payday: The Heist, here’s the rundown from SOE:

"PAYDAY: The Heist is a squad-based, first-person shooter that allows players to take on the role of a hardened career criminal and engage in a number of high-risk heists. Players will rob banks, steal from drug dealers, pocket priceless diamonds, take hostages and hijack cars in a never-ending pursuit for criminal glory. To be successful in any true heist scenario, teamwork is essential to provide crew members with a sense of security and protection, and ultimately take home the loot."
