BioWare has revealed details on its cancelled first-person shooter title Mass Effect: Team Assault.
The company was working on the project at its Montreal studio for only four months before the project was canned, later evolving into what we now know as Mass Effect 3’s multiplayer component.
“The goal was simple,” revealed U.S. journalist and presenter of the Final Hours of Mass Effect 3, Geoff Keighley, “to create a standalone multiplayer experience in the Mass Effect universe that would mix the play styles of Unreal Tournament and Battlefield 1943 – and likely be released as a downloadable game.”
While the core idea of offering an alternate perspective on the war against the Reapers was favoured, the project switched to a third-person perspective and was integrated into ME3. Consequently, Team Assault “was put on the back burner.”
Stay tuned for our review of Mass Effect 3 this weekend.
