With industry trends like Day One DLC on the rise and showing no signs of slowing, it’s a rare treat for a developer to have honest-to-goodness plans for future content updates without the conspicuous inclusion of said content on the same disc you bought for $60. Gearbox Software gets it, and at a recent press event, President and CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed that the planned Mechromancer DLC for Borderlands 2 only exists in the conceptual stage.
First announced back in April at PAX East, the Mechromancer DLC will add the titular female as a fifth character class to the game. While details on her playstyle and abilities remain scarce, she is expected to demonstrate a certain degree of engineering mastery and can construct and control a small army of Deathtrap robots. According to Pitchford, development on Borderlands 2 is very much focused on the final push of polishing and balancing, leaving little time for putting together DLC. He expects work on the Mechromancer character won’t properly begin until the game has shipped, and consumers can expect a couple months’ wait for its release.
