Rumor: Mafia III in the works for next-gen consoles

The next instalment in the Mafia franchise is currently in development for next-generation consoles, according to the Czech branch of Eurogamer.

Mafia III was apparently scheduled as a launch title for PlayStation 4 and Xbox 720, though this is no longer the case as the developer, 2K Czech, is still reeling from the loss of 40 staff last year.

As such, the studio is currently hiring with 11 positions up for grabs, including a systems designer, which mentions the studio is working on its ‘next AAA title.’

Back in March it was rumored that 2K Czech was assisting Rockstar in the development of Grand Theft Auto V, specifically helping out on cutscenes and general gameplay. The pair were apparently sharing tech secrets with the goal of transforming Mafia into a major franchise.

The most recent entry in the Mafia franchise was released on PlayStation 3, PC and Xbox 360 in August 2010.
