Bethesda increases funds for MMOs

Bethesda has long been known for their deep RPGs such as The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion.

Currently the company is working on the highly anticipated title, Fallout 3 for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC platforms. However Bethesda as recently made a few moves that will make them a large force in the MMO market.

Bethesda Software and ZeniMax will be using funds from Providence Equity Partners for “future growth, increased game development and publishing, facilitation of acquisitions, and financing of massively multiplayer online games.”

This news comes after the formation of ZeniMax Online, a Maryland based company dedicated MMO division, headed by for Mythic producer Matt Fior. ZeniMax Online’s inaugural project is currently under the wraps.

“We believe that Providence will be an ideal partner for us as we build our businesses worldwide in the years ahead,” said ZeniMax Media founder, chairman and CEO Robert A. Altman in a statement.

Right now Fallout 3 remains to be the top priority for many PS3 RPG enthusiasts from Bioware, however with all going on in the MMO market such as World of Warcraft and Bioware’s secret MMO project, Bethesda could be bringing a unique MMO IP to the market sometime in the near future.
