November NPD: Black Ops II rules the roost

Activision behemoth Call of Duty: Black Ops II sold 7.4 million units on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the U.S. last month, the latest NPD data has revealed.

The military shooter comfortably outpaced its nearest competitor, Halo 4, which managed second place with 3.2 million copies sold.

Assassin’s Creed III followed with 2.9 million, with Just Dance 4, Madden NFL 13 and Skylanders Giants bringing up the rear. Need for Speed Most Wanted meanwhile managed 509,000 units shifted.

Meanwhile, Sony continued to perpetuate the tradition of keeping tight-lipped on how well its platforms have sold. Microsoft however wasted no time in confirming that it flogged 1.26 million Xbox 360s last month, which it claims is almost double than any other console.

To put that into perspective, Nintendo’s Wii U sold 425,000, with Wii managing 420,000 units, 3DS 540,000 and DS at 370,000. In total, that’s 1.75 million units of hardware.

Sony therefore is likely to have sold in the region of 630,000 PS3s, though it remains unknown how PlayStation Vita performed.

Overall hardware sales for 360 were down by 25.9 per cent year-on-year.
