PSN maintenance will continue into Saturday for some users

The PlayStation Network story of the week seems to be an extended period of maintenance that, while initially planned for a 12-hour period on Thursday, extended into Friday and will now continue to plague some users into Saturday.

The news comes courtesy of the PlayStation Knowledge Center, where you can monitor PSN’s official status. The Knowledge Center claims that the maintenance period, which is designed to upgrade PSN software in some fashion, will run until 2:00 AM Pacific on Saturday, January 19. The outage affects PlayStation Store, PlayStation Home, and online gaming, though the post notes that some users may still be able to play games online, particularly if they had signed into PSN in the five days prior to maintenance.

Of course, some users are reporting that they’re still unable to play online despite having signed in during the five-day grace period. The outage is affecting staff members here at PSU differently, so be sure to let us know in the comments below if you’re able to play online.
