The reboot of the Thief series–cleverly named Thief–will release on PlayStation 4, PC, and other next-gen platforms in 2014, according to Game Informer’s April 2013 cover story. Eidos Montreal is working on the stealth game, which will be published by Square Enix.
We originally reported on a leaked image for the game earlier today, but now we have some more details to share. The main protagonist Garrett returns in Thief and the game will be set in the City, which has a medieval steampunk look. Players will have multiple paths and the game is said to feature open levels. The story revolves around a plague and a mean tyrant named Baron. Residents in the city face social tension because of the plague and Baron, and Garrett must pay attention to the environment and make use of all paths.
Eidos Montreal, the studio behind Deus Ex: Human Revolution, has been working on the Thief reboot for years. Game Informer has a video showing off the game and it serves as a great first look into the development team’s efforts thus far.
