Journey dev's next game will 'change the industry'

9 April 2013

Those of you who embraced Thatgamecompany’s Journey may want to keep an eye out for its next project. According to departing designer Asher Vollmer, the studio’s next game looks set to shake up the games industry in a positive way.

Writing on Tumblr, Vollmer commented: "Obviously I can't divulge any details about it, but... it's going to be huge.

"And I don't mean it's going to be a long and sprawling game, I mean it's going to be an important game. I genuinely believe it's going to change the industry in a really positive way,” he added.

Journey was released last year to critical and commercial acclaim, scooping no less than six gongs at the 2013 Game Developers Conference, including the prestigious Game of the Year award.

Vollmer’s time at Thatgamecompany was not without its frustrations, however.

"As the months wore on and progress continued at a snail's pace, I started getting more and more frustrated,” he said.

"The Game is going to be incredible, but it is moving slowly. There are years remaining on the project and, quite frankly, those are years I don't want to give up for a game that isn't truly mine."
