Sony’s PlayStation 4 has sold over 250,000 hardware units in its first 24 hours on sale in the U.K., according to various retail sources (via MCV).
By comparison, the Xbox One sold around 150,000 units in its first 48 hours on sale after launching on November 22.
Earlier today it was announced that Sony’s next-generation console had smashed records previously held by the PlayStation Portable to become the fastest-selling console in U.K. history.
Both the PS4 and Xbox One have already eclipsed the Wii U’s sales in the country, despite Nintendo’s new home console launching in November 2012.
MCV estimates that PS4 generated £87 million in sales during the 48 hour period.
