Sony announced that over 5.3 million PlayStation 4 consoles sold through to consumers worldwide as of February 8, 2014. This news follows VGChartz’s recent claim that sales hit 5.2 million sales worldwide.
The fantastic figure also means Sony reached its sales goal of 5 million PS4 by the end of Japan’s 2013 fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2014. The console will finally launch in Japan at the end of this week on Saturday, February 22. According to the latest report from the NPD Group, the PS4 was the United States’ best-selling console in January, reportedly double that of the Xbox One.
"I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season," remarked Sony Computer Entertainment President and Group CEO Andrew House. "The PS4 system’s momentum just keeps growing stronger, and we are extremely grateful for the continued passion and support of PlayStation fans."
