Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has confirmed the sale of its 9,520,000 shares in Japanese giant Square Enix.
The console maker sold its entire shares to SMBC Nikko Securities for the sum of 4.8 billion yen, which equates to roughly £28 million. The amount will be recorded in Sony’s financial report for the year ending March 31, 2015.
Sony is expected to reveal its financial report for the year ended March 31, 2014 on May 14. The sale itself will be recorded in the year ahead.
Both firms have enjoyed a lengthy relationship facilitating the launch of numerous Final Fantasy titles across all forms of PlayStation hardware. No reason for the sale was revealed, however.
