Parappa the Rapper looking at comeback, says Sony

Sony Computer Entertainment America (SCEA) boss Shawn Layden has revealed that the company is looking into ways of resurrecting Parappa the Rapper.

Speaking to Wired, Layden revealed that various licensing issues regarding the franchise may prevent Parappa from making a music comeback.

"Of course, now everyone wants me to bring out Parappa the Rapper. Which we are looking at. But that’s a more complex rights package."

"It’s us trying to be more open at SCEA," he added. "If someone comes to me about something that they would like to have back on the platform, and it’s in my power to make it happen… I mean, why wouldn’t we?"

For those who are unfamiliar with the series, Parappa the Rapper is a rhythm-based series of games and one of the first of its kind. It’s considered a cult classic among PlayStation gamers.

The original Parappa the Rapper launched on PlayStation in 1996, and was followed by sequels: Umjammer Lammer and Parappa the Rapper 2. Parappa also featured in PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale for PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita in 2012.
