Intelligence firm SuperData Research has released an intriguing set of statistics that delve into the figures behind the total digital game sales for January, and it makes for promising reading if you’re a PlayStation fan.
With digital download sales revenue hitting $263 million for January – a massive growth of 14% year over year – SuperData chief executive and lead analyst Joost van Dreunen has said that the release of Techland’s Dying Light and the HD Remaster of Resident Evil were pivotal players in the month’s successes. Unsurprisingly, however, it was Grand Theft Auto V which took top honors, as well as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Destiny following suit in second and in third respectively.
Incredibly, the top 10 list actually made up a massive $133 million of the total revenue for consoles.
PlayStation systems (both PS4 and PS3) equated to 63% of the total digital sales revenue for consoles in January, which is made even more significant considering there’s both the Xbox 360 and Xbox One to contend with, not even factoring in Nintendo’s offerings in the console market.
