Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain gets status update, Kojima currently fixing issues

Hideo Kojima has provided a short update on the development of Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, confirming he’s in the process of fixing some issues without compromising the open-world nature of the game.

Speaking on Twitter (translated by JunkersHQ), Kojima-san stressed the importance of player freedom in the hotly anticipated stealth-action title.

MGSV is an open-world "free infiltration" game, as opposed to a linear game. This doesn’t just mean that the maps are big; infiltration routes, approach to intel gathering, time of day, equipment, means of transport – these are all up to the player. We have to ensure there is freedom that is not only logical but allows for spontaneity.

What I’m doing right now is resolving problems that have appeared, without altering the level of freedom. From morning till night, I continue to put the game together while playing it on real hardware (the same environment in which players will play the game). Of course, I still have meetings to attend and things from the various teams to go check in-person.”

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain is due out on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in 2015. The game acts as a follow-up to last year’s Ground Zeroes, and sees Venom Snake out to seek revenge for the death of his comrades in the previous game.
