PS4 vs Xbox One: ‘both consoles are nearly identical,’ says developer

Grip Games, the studio behind indie shooter Tower of Guns, has said there is little difference between the PS4 and Xbox One in terms of raw GPU performance.

Jakub Mikyska commented that while Sony and Microsoft’s latest platforms have various nuances that developers must respect and work around, both machines are still ‘identical’ in many respects.

Yes, they certainly are really similar. There weren’t any performance issues that would only appear on one platform, while the other one handled them better. Both machines have some things they like and things they dislike and you have respect that and work around that, but in general, the performance of both is nearly identical," he said.

Elsewhere, Mikyska reckons cloud gaming is only a matter of time away for both formats: “But cloud computing is coming, one way or another. Both Sony and Microsoft are testing the waters, so let’s see where this goes.

PS4 and Xbox One launched in November 2013, with Sony’s console taking the lead in worldwide sales, reaching 20.2 million as of March 1, 2015. Xbox One sales are not known at this point, though Microsoft has claimed shipments of 10 million as of October 31, 2014.
