Destiny has notched up 20m players worldwide

Speaking in its latest financial report this week, Activision confirmed that Destiny, the shared-world shooter from developer Bungie, has hit 20 million players worldwide since its launch last September.

The publishing giant announced back in February that the game had notched up 16 million players back in February, meaning the alien shooter has netted an additional four million players in just two months—an impressive feat, we think you’ll agree.

However, it’s worth noting that we still don’t know just how many copies Destiny has sold since launch. Also, the fact the game has hit 20 million players doesn’t mean that every one of those are still playing the game; it just means that they have indulged in a spot of alien slaughter at some point. Quite how many are still actively playing Destiny remains unknown.

Still, there’s plenty to get excited for Destiny players this year. For starters, we have the next DLC drop, House of Wolves, which arrives on May 19. Then, if reports are to be believed, Bungie is prepping a major expansion, The Taken King, for September.

Oh, and players should probably remember that Xur arrives in the tower again tomorrow, so you had better get those Strange Coins ready, Guardians!
