Yakuza series sales hit 7.5 million, Yakuza Zero sells 500k

SEGA has announced that the Yakuza franchise has sold 7.5 million copies worldwide, while sales of the latest instalment, Yakuza Zero, have hit 500,000 in Japan across PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3 formats.

Yakuza turns 10 years old this year in Japan, having first launched there on the PlayStation 2 with the original gangster-’em-up on December 8, 2005.

SEGA encourages fans to wait for more news regarding the series’ anniversary, so hopefully the publisher has some ideas up its sleeves on how to celebrate the milestone later this year.

Yakuza has continued to prove a massive success in its native Japan since its inception, although sales of the series western markets have been slow to say the least.

Nonetheless, SEGA has localised many of the games for U.S. and Europe, with Yakuza 5 slated for a digital release via PlayStation Network in Q3 2015.
