Sony is finally introducing the PlayStation 4-exclusive branding with the release of the upcoming fighting game sequel, Street Fighter V.
As you can see from the image below (via WCCFTech), the box art for Capcom’s hotly anticipated brawler bears the ‘PlayStation 4 Console Exclusive Game’ text on the top right-hand corner of the box.
Sony has used this type of branding in the past, as have many other platform holders, although this is the first instance of this particular style used for a PS4 game. No doubt we’ll see Sony pushing its exclusive content this way throughout 2016 and beyond, with games such as Uncharted 4 and The Last Guardian sure to take advantage of the new box art.
PS4 has sold nearly 36 million units worldwide since its launch in November 2013, putting it comfortably ahead in the current-generation console war. Microsoft has even admitted that PS4 has enjoyed a massive lead over its own system, the Xbox One, which has sold an estimated 18-20 million units globally.
Street Fighter V is released for PS4 and PC in February and will ship with 16 characters on day-one, with more scheduled to roll out throughout the year. Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono recently suggested that Xbox One fans should buy a PS4 if they want to play the game, as it will remain exclusive to PS4 indefinitely. He also revealed that Capcom has a five-year plan for the fighting sequel, although it’s unknown just what the company has lined up during this time.
While featuring an extensive cast of characters, Capcom has attracted criticism for excluding certain fan-favorites such as Blanka and Sagat. Ono-san recently delved into the process behind selecting characters for inclusion in Street Fighter V during an interview with OPM UK.
