PS4 gamer finds Ocelot on Mother Base in The Phantom Pain

A PlayStation 4 user has managed to capture footage of Ocelot hanging around on Mother Base in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain.

The presence of Snake’s gun-toting buddy may not seem all that exciting at first glance, although it’s actually the remnants of a feature that was originally going to be included in the stealth-action sequel, whereby players could interact with various characters on the base.

While this feature didn’t make the final cut, it didn’t stop Kojima Productions from including a few nods it in the game—-Ocelot’s cameo being one of them. However, he’s not actually accessible in the regular sense, and can only be spotted while Snake is taking off in a chopper en route to a mission.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain was released on PS4, PS3, PC, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 on September 1. The game garnered strong reviews from critics and proved a massive commercial success, shipping over five million copies to date

The game is the final entry in the venerable stealth-action franchise from Kojima-san, who left Konami late last year to form his own independent studio. His first title has been confirmed to exclusive to the PS4.

The Phantom Pain takes place in the year 1984, nine years after the events of its predecessor, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes. The sequel focuses on Snake and Ocelot’s attempts to rebuild Mother Base and extract revenge on those responsible for its destruction, which lead to Snake’s coma at the conclusion of Ground Zeroes.
