Outlast 2 release date pushed to early 2017

Red Barrels has announced on Facebook that Outlast 2’s release date has been delayed until Q1 2017.

The horror sequel was originally scheduled for release in late 2016 on PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One.

"Our mission as an indie studio is to deliver to you the best, most terrifying, most fulfilling experiences possible," said the developer. "That’s why we’re taking just a little bit more time to make sure our vision for Outlast 2 is in no way compromised and is the experience you deserve.

"This is not the type of news we ever want to deliver, but we are so fully committed to the world we’ve built and to our awesome community that we could not, in good conscience, release a game who’s limits haven’t been tested to the extreme."

As with the critically acclaimed original, Outlast 2 runs on a modified version of the Unreal Engine 3, although this time the developers have completed revamped the enemy AI from Outlast.

Outlast 2 takes place within the same universe as its predecessor, and transpires following the events of the Mount Massive Asylum. The sequel will take place in and around a secluded village in Arizona, USA, and sees cameraman Blake Langermann and his wife Lynn travelling to the remote settlement to investigate the murder of an unnamed woman.
