A purported Assassin’s Creed Empire screenshot has leaked online that appears to confirm that the game, which is supposedly due for release in 2017, will take place in Egypt.
While there’s not much to go on, the screenshot clearly showcases the protagonist carrying a shield with what appears to be the Assassin’s logo on it, and is dressed in clothing appropriate for the setting, though it’s possible it may also be Greek. The shield itself appears to be of Greek origin, while the symbol above the tomb entrance echoes Egyptian themes. Interestingly, the screenshot looks a lot like the one that leaked a few years back, which at the time was believed to be from a Prince of Persia reboot.
Assassin’s Creed Empire is the rumored title for the next chapter in Ubisoft’s multi-million selling stealth-action franchise, and is set to reboot the series with a new trilogy starting out in ancient Egypt. The series was put on hiatus last year so Ubisoft could take the franchise back to the drawing board following a series of annual entries that began with Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood in 2010 and concluded with 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.
Could Alexander the Great be involved somehow? The title of Empire might allude as much; Alexander conquered Egypt, Greece, and various others too.
