New Red Dead Redemption 2 details confirm ‘incredible emotional depth’

Red Dead Redemption 2 looks set to offer a “big, sprawling, optimistic view of America,” according to Take-Two boss, Strauss Zelnick.

Speaking at an MKM Partners event this week (via GameSpot), Zelnick spilled a few interesting tidbits on the hotly anticipated Wild West sequel, which is currently in development for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.

Zelnick said that now is the right time for a sequel to arrive on the scene, adding that views for the game’s debut trailer have exceeded the company’s expectations. Accordingly, “anticipation is enormous” for the Red Dead follow-up.

"The conventional wisdom was of course that a western wouldn’t work," he said of the original game. "We took a different point of view, which is that very occasionally westerns capture the imagination of the public. When we launched Red Dead, it did. And those times were right for that. And I think the times are right for a big, sprawling, optimistic view of America again–and that’s not meant to be cute."

The executive went on to say that Red Dead Redemption 2 will offer “incredible emotional depth,” adding, "You can expect there to be great story elements and great gameplay elements.

Red Dead Redemption 2 release date set for fall 2017

Rockstar announced Red Dead 2 last month following years of rumor and speculation, confirming the game will launch for PS4 and Xbox One in fall of next year. From what we know so far, the sequel will include a vast open-world to explore and will feature its own dedicated online environment, similar to GTA Online.

Not much else is known about the game’s plot right now, although it appears the core cast will feature a total of seven unique characters. PS4 owners will, however, get early access to certain content within the game.
