PS4 price cut to combat Nintendo Switch release rumor

Sony is rolling out a fresh PS4 price cut for select countries in Europe from tomorrow, presumably in an effort to combat the release of the Nintendo Switch.

According to advertising documents from retailers in Germany (via NeoGAF), it would appear that the PS4 Slim price will be dropping to €199 from March 3, which is the same day that Nintendo launches its next-generation system. At the time of writing, it seems that the likes of Belgium and Italy are also jumping on the price cut bandwagon.

From what we can tell, the price cut is not permanent, but rather a one-day only affair to take the wind out of Nintendo’s sails just in time for the weekend console-buying rush. Right now, it’s unknown if Sony will offer a similar price drop for the U.K. or extend the move to the U.S., but we’ll be sure to let you know more if we hear anything.

Sony launched the PS4 Slim last September as a replacement for the original launch model of its flagship home console. The system retails for £229.99 in the U.K. and around $249.99 in the U.S. for the standard 500GB model.
