Sony has announced that the WipEout Omega Collection release date will be June 7, 2017 exclusively for PlayStation 4.
WipEout Omega Collection features high-definition remasters of three classic titles in the futuristic racing franchise: WipEout HD, WipeOut Fry, and WipEout 2048. In addition to running at a blistering 60fps/1080p, the game will also support PS4 Pro with dynamic 4K resolution.
Sony also confirmed that the game will include 28 licensed music tracks from various artists, such as Swedish House Mafia, Chemical Brothers, and The Prodigy (we have found memories of battling it out in WipEout 2097 to Firestarter on the PSOne, as we’re sure you do too).
Each of the three WipEout games included in the collection feature a career mode, plus a race box mode allowing you to custom your own races. There’s also split-screen and online multiplayer to enjoy, with tournaments, single races, time trial, and famous zone mode to tuck into.
The WipEout franchise launched on the PSOne and Sega Saturn in the mid-90s, developed by Psygnosis, who was later assimilated into Sony’s growing lineup of first-party studios as SCE Studio Liverpool.
