Guerrilla Games has revealed it has cooked up some ideas for a potential sequel to its critically acclaimed PS4-exclusive Horizon: Zero Dawn.

While Horizon 2 has not been officially announced as of yet, the Amsterdam-based developer told Game Informer (via WCCF) that it’s already thought about ways it can improve things for a possible follow-up, as well as saying it’s been ‘humbled’ by the response to Horizon following its launch earlier this year.

We’ve been absolutely humbled by the players’ response to the story and their emotional connection to Aloy. Should a sequel happen, our number one goal would be to respect that connection by doing our utmost to create a story that resonates just as deeply,” commented Horizon’s Narrative Director, John Gonzalez.

We have some ideas on how we can improve weapon/loadout switching, but I can’t share anything on this yet,” added Game Director, Mathijs de Jonge. “That some parts don’t shine quite as brightly as others is something that was kind of inevitable due to the scope. We are looking closely at any critiques as part of plotting out our plans for the future of Horizon.”

Rounding things off, the game’s Art Director, Jan-Bart van Beek, revealed what he’d like to see from Horizon 2. “More machines. They are a lot of fun to design, build, animate, and play with. I wish we could have done a hundred. But reality is a harsh mistress; it doesn’t allow you to make hundreds of machines.”

Horizon was released exclusively on PS4 on February 28 in the U.S. and March 1 in Europe. The game received high praise from critics, including PSU.com, and sold a whopping 2.7 million copies by mid-March, with Guerrilla confirming work on an expansion is already underway. The studio has hinted that if a sequel should materialise, it may not necessarily feature Aloy as the protagonist.
