Developer Bluepoint Games has confirmed that it’s chiseling away on a new remake project, according to a job listing on its official website.
The studio, who is perhaps best known to PlayStation gamers as the company responsible for the Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection and Gravity Rush Remastered, emphasised that the title is being aimed to ‘please the masses,’ suggesting the project will be a much-loved IP. While the PS4 was not mentioned in the job ad, it’s worth mentioning that seven of Bluepoint’s nine projects have been PS-exclusive releases.
Of course, this opens up the possibility of a myriad of titles that could be given the high-definition treatment. One such candidate would be Shenmue, which has remained consistently popular among gamers for a PS4 update, and would certainly fit the bill of ‘pleasing the masses.’ In fact, a Shenmue HD Collection has been rumored for years now, and back in January it was reported that the trademark shenmuehd.com was registered by SEGA of Europe.
We hear you though. Shenmue isn’t technically a PlayStation classic, seeing as how it was only released on Dreamcast, right? While that might be the case, there’s still plenty of other titles that Bluepoint could be applying its impeccable spit and polish to. Since the job ad specifically mentions remake, we can presumably rule out anything from the PS3-era, as that would require more of sprucing up in the form of a remaster.
A full-blown remake, ala Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy, could be applied to many classic PlayStation games. Here’s a few we’d like to see: Syphon Filter, G-Police, Destruction Derby, Spyro the Dragon. On the flip side, it could very well just be a remaster, in which case something like inFAMOUS 1 & 2, Ratchet & Clank (PS3), Demon’s Souls, and Shenmue seem more likely.
Stay tuned to PSU for more details on Bluepoint Games’ remake plans.
