The new Assassin’s Creed game that has been rumored to hit stores this year will be titled Assassin’s Creed Origins.
That’s at least according to a poster on Reddit, who claims to be working for a company responsible for manufacturing pre-order cards for various department stores. A few weeks back, a new order came in for Assassin’s Creed Origins and Far Cry 5 (Ubisoft has been rumored to be working on a new title for some time now), with the former allegedly the long-rumored Egyptian-themed title due out later this year.
Obviously, this needs to be taken with a healthy pinch of salt for the time being, but the poster provided the following info on the as-yet unannounced Assassin’s Creed title.
“I didn’t get to look at it for long but it was art for a reservation card for a US retailer. The game is called Assassin’s Creed Origins and looks very much like it’s set in Egypt. The artwork had a city with a pyramid in the background. In the centre of the card there is the new assassin walking toward the city. It looked like he was carrying a shield, a bow, and he had a hawk of some sort on his shoulder. Last bit of note is the reservation is for the Gold edition of the game which has the base game, the season pass and comes in a steelbook packaging. No idea what the price will be. This isn’t the first time that I’ve found out about a game thanks to my work and in past experiences the game is usually announced before our printer ships the cards, or shortly after. I believe these are scheduled to shipped on the 30th so the official announcement should come by then.”
Assassin’s Creed Empire has been the long-rumored title for the next chapter in Ubisoft’s multi-million selling stab-happy series, although if these reports are to be believed it appears the game has undergone a name change. Nonetheless, the rumored Egyptian setting seems to be the real deal, and from what we’ve heard before, Origins will kick start a brand new trilogy for the stealth-action franchise.
Ubisoft confirmed last year that it was giving Assassin’s Creed a rest in an effort to revitalise the series, which from 2010’s Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood had been released on an annual schedule. Since then however, we’ve seen the Assassin’s Creed Chronicles spin-off series plus a big-screen adaptation starring Michael Fassbender.
