PS4 Pro price drop not likely as Microsoft reveals pricier Xbox One X

Despite the well-publicized unveiling of Microsoft’s new console, the Xbox One X, Sony has confirmed that it has no plans for a PS4 Pro price drop in the near future to combat it.

Speaking with Indonesian gaming website ‘JagatPlay’ a number of days ago, Sony’s President of Worldwide Studios Shuhei Yoshida commented on a question which asked whether or not PlayStation would consider reducing the price of PS4 Pro.

In his reply, Yoshida-san said: ‘’PS4 Pro? Is it too expensive? I understand it’s in high demand and it’s very popular, so we are very happy with the quality of games available on PS4 Pro and the feedback we get from consumers who purchase PS4 Pro is really, really, positive – whether or not you have a 4K TV, it’s great to play games on regular HD TVs, as well as PS VR games. So people are very, very happy, so we don’t have any plans to change.’’

It’s not too surprising to be honest what with PS4’s continued dominance in the gaming sphere this year, helped no end by the slew of critically acclaimed releases that looks set to continue with the upcoming Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.

That said, we think it’s foolish to rule out some sort of even temporary PS4 Pro price drop towards the holiday season once Xbox One X releases on November 7 – after all it’d certainly take the wind out of Microsoft’s sails considering a $50 PS4 Pro price drop would increase the gulf in cost to $150 between both consoles.

But perhaps maybe Sony’s bullish enough and believe at its current price will still prove successful this holiday season even in the face of stiff competition.
