Riddick: Dark Athena is no longer a remake

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay is arguably the best movie-licensed game ever created. While some may feel that isn't exactly a hard feat to accomplish, Escape from Butcher Bay stood up admirable well when stacked against some of the best out there.

For a while people assumed that this new chapter in the Riddick series was going to end up as a remake for Vin Diesel's high definition debut. Fortunately, that's not the case at all. Dark Athena will be its own 10-hour campaign that Bill Kispert is calling "robust," and he isn't kidding.

According to Joystiq, this remake, turned sequel, features a lengthy 10-hour campaign, completely new game mechanics and full production values. This is all despite being kicked to the curb by Activision-Blizzard before being saved by Starbeeze Studios.

The Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena is scheduled for release in the spring of 2009. As an added bonus, a fully remastered copy of The Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay will be included within the game disc. You won't find a better two-for-one deal around.
