Sony: No plans to change XMB

It's not uncommon for websites to alter the look of their front page in order to give users a fresher and more streamlined experience. Microsoft certainly took that approach recently with their new and improved dashboard titled "New Xbox Experience." With so many changes happening around the dashboard of consoles, GamePro had a few questions to ask Sony about their own Cross Media Bar and if there were any changes in its future.

John Kohler had this to say about the potential to change-up something that works, ""Grand-scale changes [to XMB] are probably not realistic, because it's something that's been so well-received."

Kohler also added: "If consumers pound on our door loudly enough, we'll make sure they're listened to. That's been evident in the firmware updates [for the PS3 and PSP], which came out because of consumer feedback."

Outside of the kiddish-like Avatars, Microsoft's NXE touts a great feature in offering the availability to stream movies through Netflix on the 360. While rumors float around discussing how Blockbuster Online could be Sony's answer to the 360's Netflix, Kohler expresses a view of disagreement.

"We've concentrated most of our efforts on our download service, both rentals and downloads of movies and TV shows. Our efforts will continue to be there, because our customers want to own the content."

Owning the content is always an awesome choice. Check back a little later and we'll have today's video store update ready for you to make decisions on.
