PS3 FIFA too complex for PC technology

Posted on September 15th, 2008 at 08:27 EDT

As if you needed any further convincing of the PlayStation 3’s raw processing power, EA Sports has revealed that only 1-3% of gaming PC's would be able to run the console versions of FIFA 2009.

"The PC version of FIFA 09 is different to the PlayStation 3 versions because of the CPU processing power required for the architecture of the game", a staff member on EA's UK forums stated.

"The majority of gamer's PC's do not have enough CPU processing power for this architecture," he continued. "If the architecture was identical to the PlayStation 3 version, FIFA 09 on PC would only be accessible to 1-3% of the PC systems on the market."

We're presuming that 1-3% is the quad-core water-cooled SLI brigade, who would presumably be far too busy getting Crysis to run on Medium settings anyway.

Don't know about you, but we'd rather have all that processing power dedicated to Cristiano Ronaldo's quiff and Frank Lampard's wobbly gut. This is the state of the art folks.

what about the xbox360 version?? I am glad that developers have started looking at the ps3 as a FRIENDLY console. Hope this continues and we will be sure to see what the ps3 is really capable of sooner than previewed.

I've played the demo on my PS3

the game is bad & graphics are poor

Right....like ea would do that, make a game better on ps3 than 360.  Played the demo, did not see anything spectacular about it.  Not like there is much going on to process.  I declare "BS"!  Shame on you EA, shame on you.

psn id: gingo.... this is the reason i prefer console gaming over pc gaming, despite the fact a pc, no matter how good it is has slow down at least with console you dont keep having to buy updated parts for it, yeah so maybe they cant play crysis on full settings but less than 1% of pc can either, good to see EA supporting ps3 100% now

@5 -  The game is alright, not too bad. I thought the same about the graphics but when you zoom in to some of the players they look remarkable. My fav part is the loading and justing taking the shots..agreed the gameplay is terrible but its a game marketed towards kids anyway

but this is my first fifa since 07 that i'll be buying, mainly for the be a pro. but the main gameplay still has nothing on pes (INCLUDING PES08, which i still play with mates everyday)

Well, you must realise one crutial flaw with most gaming PC's.

They run windows whilst running a game.

Yikes! that seems like an awful big waste of processing power! the demo was nothing to get excited about. I felt like i played that game 4 years ago.

I have FIFA 2007 and im playing it...im not buying FIFA 2008 or FIFA 2009...played the demos...the graphics update is good in FIFA 2009, but there is problems in-game (cutscenes, lagging) - FIFA World Cup 98 / FIFA 99 / FIFA 2003 / FIFA 2005 / FIFA 2006 World Cup / FIFA 2007 is the best soccer games from EA.

Im not a big fan of the sport, but just playing some times...

Um you do realize there is a fifa 09 pc demo? Dont think only quad core, liquid cooled, sli machines can run it... Also not to mention the gtx200 series has built in physX. And last but not least the gtx280 does 5x the work load in folding home than the ps3.

Well it does say "The PC version of FIFA 09 is different to the PlayStation 3 versions because of the CPU processing power required for the architecture of the game", so you could understand there's a demo out.

I for one won't be getting FIFA 09 though. Pro Evo all the way for me. And for the record, I though FIFA 99 was the best footie game by EA.

pc gaming is not neccesarily dead (i dont think it ever will be) but it definitely takes a backseat to consoles, consoles are easier for devs AND users and now its proven that, at least the ps3, is more powerful than 99% of pcs out there plus no piracy or very very little

I LOVE YOU EA!

I want to marry your babies!

EA needs to get their mics working on BF:BC. Unless EA thinks PS3's are too advanced for microphones now too.

So if only 1-3% of pc's can run this game where does that leave the poor ole 360?

EA is full of s***. why  did they f*** up that stupid half life game. if the ps3 has this power, why not use to make good game. instead of lousy ports. and its not just half life.

yea thats all fun and great but remember, EA said that the PS3 version will look almost as good as the 360 version. EA seem to be acknowledging the PS3 more but there not quite there yet. i'll see if its a game i'll be getting but i've played the demo and it is awsome though, huge improvement from last year. thumbs up to EA (how long will it last???)

Sounds as if ea is patronizing the PS3 audience to win some customers back. I'm not falling for it.

I agree Stovich. He's saying that only 1-3% of gaming pc's could run it, yet the crapbox will be running it? Right. If I want hot air blown up my butt, I'd stand over a geyser. EA can shove it. Go sell yourselves a little more to M$.
