Battlefield 3 sales hit 5 million in one week

Internal estimates at Electronic Arts have put week one sales of Battlefield 3 at around the five million mark.

The figure makes the DICE-developed military shooter the fastest selling game in EA history, and follows hot on the heels of confirmation that the game has shipped 10 million units to retailers as of last Friday.

Despite some server issues, EA confirmed that Battlefield 3 owners have raked in 73 million savior kills, 48 million revies and eliminated 67 million vehicles since the game’s U.S. launch last Tuesday.

"From Tokyo to Los Angeles, Sydney to London, millions of fans have been playing all weekend long – we are overwhelmed by the global response to Battlefield 3," commented EA’s Patrick Soderlund.

"It is extremely gratifying to deliver an entertainment experience that delights our fans, and to have the opportunity to introduce new people to the franchise. Already, we are seeing unprecedented play times and online activity which is very rewarding. This launch solidifies Battlefield as a leading entertainment brand."
