Media Molecule speaks on mystery game: ‘There’s exciting things happening in the studio’, we’ll learn more ‘soonish’

While the exact nature of Media Molecule’s unannounced mystery game (possibly teased earlier today) is unknown, PSU has exclusively learned that the studio is prepared to talk about their next title soon.

At a private press event in Hollywood several days ago, I was fortunate enough to speak at length with Media Molecule team members about Tearaway, PS Vita development, and the studio’s unannounced game. When asked if he’d like to comment on this intriguing project in any way, Lead Game Designer Rex Crowle replied, "As a company, [we] always . . . have various experiments on the go that we’re kind of stirring and working out exactly what form they’re gonna take." While Crowle was hesitant to share further details, he did confirm that something is in the works: "Obviously we’re not actually going to comment on what else we’re working on at this point, but, yeah, there’s exciting things happening in the studio."

To follow up on the game’s apparent experimental nature, I asked if it might lie somewhat outside the realm of video games. "Everyone’s very busy outside of the world of video games as well," Crowle acquiesced. "There’s always someone playing guitar in the office, or making a short film." Still, it doesn’t seem like Media Molecule’s next game will be quite so outside-the-lines. "We’re definitely focused on making fun," Crowle assured, "so there’s gonna be a lot of video games still coming out of us."

I also posed the question to Level Designer Christophe Villedieu, and asked if we could expect to hear more about Media Molecule’s mystery game in the coming months. As a knowing smile appeared on his face, Villedieu gave a vague-yet-intriguing response: Stay tuned, he said, as Media Molecule will have news to share "soonish".
